Pour over coffee is a method that allows you to control every aspect of the brewing process, resulting in a clean and flavorful cup of coffee. In this guide, we'll take you through the steps of brewing coffee using a pour over method, so you can enjoy a delicious cup of coffee at home.
What You'll Need:
Pour over cone (such as Hario V60 or Chemex)
Paper filter
Freshly ground coffee beans
Kettle
Scale
Timer
Mug
Step 1: Heat Water
Heat water to just below boiling, around 200°F (93°C).
Step 2: Prepare the Filter
Place the paper filter in the pour over cone and rinse it with hot water to remove any papery taste and preheat the cone. Discard the rinse water.
Step 3: Measure and Grind Coffee
Measure out 25 grams of coffee beans for every 400 grams of water you'll be using. Adjust the coffee-to-water ratio based on your taste preference.
Grind the coffee beans to a medium-fine consistency, similar to table salt.
Step 4: Bloom the Coffee
Place the pour over cone on top of your mug and add the ground coffee.
Start your timer and slowly pour just enough water to saturate the coffee grounds, allowing them to bloom for 30 seconds.
Step 5: Pour Over
After the bloom, slowly pour the remaining water over the coffee grounds in a circular motion, starting from the center and moving outwards.
Use the scale to maintain the total weight of water and coffee, pouring in stages to keep the water level consistent.
Aim to complete the pour in about 2-3 minutes.
Step 6: Serve and Enjoy
Once all the water has passed through the filter, remove the pour over cone and discard the grounds.
Pour the brewed coffee into your mug and savor the rich, flavorful cup you've brewed.
Brewing coffee using a pour over method is a simple yet rewarding process that allows you to enjoy a delicious cup of coffee with full control over the brewing process. By following these steps, you can master the art of pour over coffee brewing and elevate your coffee experience at home.
